Not to be completely overshadowed by its brand-new CX-3 little brother, the 2016 Mazda CX-5 crossover gets a few updates and is also on display at the 2014 L.A. auto show. Changes include revised exterior styling and an updated interior with an improved infotainment interface.

The 2016 Mazda CX-5 doesn’t look remarkably different than before, as the changes to the exterior styling amount to a reshaped grille, slightly different headlights, new alloy wheels, and LED accents for the taillights. This all adds up to a slightly more modern appearance, though the CX-5 was already one of the most stylish entries in its class.

Inside is where more significant changes take place, as the 2016 Mazda CX-5 now features the MazdaConnect infotainment system that debuted on the 2014 Mazda 3. This means that the CX-5 has a slightly revised dashboard layout with a larger, 7-inch display screen in the center of the dash to replace the previous TomTom-sourced screen. This new screen is operated through a console-mounted control knob and features new smartphone connectivity and app support features. Otherwise, some dashboard materials are different, and there is a new Parchment leather color available, and the center console has new storage spaces thanks to the addition of an electronic parking brake.

No mechanical changes are in the cards for the refreshed 2016 Mazda CX-5, as the crossover continues to offer 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter Skyactiv four-cylinder engines. The manual transmission base model continues on for the 2.0-liter engine, while the 2.5-liter four comes standard with a six-speed automatic. All-wheel drive is optional for 2.5L models, and Mazda does say that it has made some NVH improvements for a quieter ride.

Don’t expect the 2016 Mazda CX-5 to start much higher than the 2015 model’s $22,375 starting price. We don’t yet know exactly when this refreshed crossover goes on sale, but expect it to arrive in dealerships sometime in mid to late 2015 along with the similarly updated 2016 Mazda 6 sedan.
