Cadillac has announced early buyers of the2014 ELR will receive for free a 240-volt home charging station.

With a steep starting price of 75,995 USD (excluding government rebates), not a lot of people are heading to Cadillac's showrooms to place an order for the ELR which is 41,000 USD more expensive than the 2014 Chevrolet Volt. They are now trying to convince early buyers to make the move and place an order for the ELR by offering a free 240-volt home charging station which comes with free installation.

Cadillac is also providing a 39-month lease plan for the 2014 ELR with 5,999 USD to be paid when signing the papers and then 699 USD each month. In return you will get a sleek plug-in hybrid coupe which can do 37 miles (60 km) in electric mode and approximately 345 miles (555 km) overall. With the free 240-volt charger it takes 5 hours to fill up the 16.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack while with a 120V travel charger the recharging process is done between 12.5 to 18 hours.

The 2014 ELR comes with a 1.4-liter gasoline engine generator and an electric motor providing a combined output of 217 bhp (162 kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm). It can return 33 mpg US in the combined cycle and 82 MPGe in EV mode when it can hit a top speed of 106 mph (170 km/h). In the range-extending mode it will do the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) run in 7.8 seconds, making it a full second quicker than in EV mode.
