The new 2016 Audi TT was just revealed at the 2014 Geneva auto show, and across the stage from the new sports coupe sat this high-performance concept based on the TT, called the Audi TT Quattro Sport concept.
This concept is meant to show the range of possibilities for the new Audi TT from a performance-oriented perspective. With its high-horsepower engine, lightweight construction, aerodynamic enhancements, and stiffened chassis, the TT Quattro Sport concept is meant for the racetrack. While a version of the TT like this is unlikely to go into production, we expect elements of the Quattro Sport to make it into future high-performance variants of the Audi TT like the TT RS.
The centerpiece of the Audi TT Quattro Sport concept is an extremely high-output version of the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine found in lesser TTs and numerous other Volkswagen Group products. In this application, the four-cylinder produces 414 hp and 331 lb-ft of torque. That means that this direct-injection engine is putting out more than 200 hp per liter, a wild figure for a presumably street-legal engine. The TT Quattro Sport’s low weight in combination with this powerful engine makes for a 0-62 mph time of 3.7 seconds. Like in most other versions of the TT, this engine pairs with Audi’s S tronic dual-clutch transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive.
Audi has stripped out much of the TT’s new interior for this concept, removing armrests, speakers, and even door handles for a race car-like look inside -- and reduced weight. The racing seats are even mounted with four-point seat belts, and the cargo area has been shaped to fit two racing helmets. This racing theme continues on the outside, as the Audi TT Quattro Sport concept is fitted with semi-slick tires and 20-inch wheels, a front splitter and rear diffuser, and a large fixed rear wing.
The Audi TT Quattro Sport concept is a hardcore interpretation of the stylish TT coupe, and we look forward to seeing how future performance versions like the TT RS take inspiration from this track-ready Audi.
