Cadillac is boosting fuel efficiency of its 2016 Cadillac CTS and ATS sedans with a host of powertrain changes, including engine start/stop, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and a new 3.6-liter V-6 engine that was introduced for the 2016 Cadillac CT6 luxury sedan.
This new, direct-injection V-6 engine makes 333 hp and 285 lb-ft of torque, improvements of 12 hp and 7 lb-ft of torque over the previous 3.6-liter V-6. Cylinder deactivation and engine start/stop technologies help bring EPA combined fuel economy ratings up to 24 mpg for both sedans (22 mpg with all-wheel drive), an improvement of 2 mpg in rear-wheel-drive models and 1 mpg in all-wheel-drive models. A new eight-speed automatic transmission replaces the outgoing six-speed as the only transmission choice for the V-6 in both the ATS and CTS.
The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine available in the ATS and CTS also receives the eight-speed automatic, and comes standard with engine start/stop for 2016. Combined fuel economy goes up for this engine too, improving 2 mpg in the ATS to 26 mpg and 1 mpg in the CTS to 25 mpg (AWD models lose 1 mpg combined). 2016 Cadillac ATS sedan and coupe models still offer a six-speed manual on rear-wheel-drive 2.0T models; the base ATS sedan continues with its 2.5-liter four-cylinder, which gains the eight-speed automatic as well. Continuing on unchanged is the 2016 Cadillac CTS Vsport, which still uses a 3.6-liter twin-turbo V-6 with 420 hp and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
There are other minor updates in store for the 2016 Cadillac CTS and ATS sedans, includingApple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, new color options inside and out, and a few extra active safety features. The CTS also gets a slightly different wheel design.
